A Mini update on how Project Blankie’s coming along! Ive been so busy with other projects i’ve only had time to make a few squares since the last update, although im eagerly awaiting a few squares all the way from America!
Project blankie has been a bit neglected as of late, all alone in a box in the cupboard. I got everything out a couple of weeks ago and started sewing it together to see how it’s coming along. There’s still lots to do but i feel like the end is in reach! If you knit or crochet i’d love for your to send me a square! Just drop me an email hollystanway [at] gmail.com
Tubby Paws is killing me with cuteness, go see!
Wow Friday already?! Hope you’re had a nice week, busy busy round here for a change, i’m really looking forward to posting Monday Instructable, i think you’re gonna like it! This weeks internet stuff that’s been keeping me entertained comprises of: cute character art, Holly Madison’s dog, Neil Gaiman’s cat (am i turning into a weird celebrity-pet stalker?!) geeky knitting, a couple of my fave songs right now…
It’s been so busy round here so it’s been a while since i’ve done an update on where project blankie’s got to. For those new to the blog (hi!) project blankie is a massive sofa throw i’m making out of individual knitted and crochet’d squares. If you’ve got craft skills, i’d love for you to send me one and i’ll feature it on the blog
It’s been a productive week! My friend Alicia learned to knit and has been busting out squares left right and centre! I’ve been working on some pac man ones, i’ve got one more ghost left to make and all the fruits! I also did one with a chao from Sonic Adventure DS.
We calculated how many squares it’ll need to complete the blanket, and its something mind boggling like 270! So it looks like i’ll be at it for a while yet. We would love to receive a square from you if you can knit or crochet!

Made a few more squares, using more blue-tones this week. I have a couple of friends who want to learn to knit so i spent a bit of time figuring out how to knit a 5×5″ square, this is where im getting really excited because i want to do a bunch of squares with computer game sprites in them. I started with a Mario mushroom, im currently looking for the perfect Sonic the Hedgehog blue so i can get all nostaligic for my Mega Drive

Alongside my plush projects i’ve started making a huuuge sofa throw, out of simple 5″ granny squares. Granny squares are good practice for beginners, or an opportunity for more experienced crocheters to show off some skillz!

Over the Christmas holidays I knitted this Sackboy from Little Big Planet. I had been wanting to make one for a while but then i read here that there was a pattern in the latest Simply Knitting magazine. I made a few little changes to their version; a bigger zip and narrower shoulders, and i’m really pleased with how he came out. I need to get quicker at knitting because everyone who comes round and sees him sitting atop the Playstation wants one!
I am quite happy with him but i’m going to do another one with an open mouth now i know how the pattern works. Next time i want to give him a wire armature too so he is easier to stand pose.
These are the basic patterns i’ve been using but you can use any pattern you like as long as the result is a 5″x5″ square
Each square is 5″ x 5″ (13 x 13 cm). I’ve been crocheting them using a 4mm needle and mostly 4 ply yarn (im just using up random bits and bobs of yarn so theres some chunky and thinner stuff thrown in there, too)
Knitting Pattern:
Using 4mm needles cast on 26 stitches, knit 40 rows, cast off. Simples
Crochet Pattern: Here’s the pattern i’ve *mostly* been using (As the wool has been irregular thickesses i’ve sometimes omitted a row of 3-dc clusters, or swaped the last dc round for a sc to keep them the same size)
With Color A, ch 5, join to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as a dc in this and all following rnds), 2 dc in ring; (ch 3, 3 dc in ring) 3 times; ch 3; join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3; sl st to the next ch 3 space).
Rnd 2: Ch 3, in same sp work (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc): corner made; * ch 1, sk next 3 dc, in next ch-3 sp work (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc): corner made; rep from * twice more; ch 1, sk next 3 dc; join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3:Rnd 3: Join color B in any ch-3 corner sp: ch 3, in same sp work (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc): corner made; * ch 1, sk next 3 dc, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp: 3-dc group made; ch 1, sk next 3 dc, in next ch-3 corner sp work (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc): corner made; rep from * twice more; ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-l sp: 3-dc group made; ch 1, sk next 3 dc; join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3.

Rnd 5: Join color C in any ch-3 corner sp; ch 3, in same sp work (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc): corner made; * (ch 1, sk next 3 dc, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp) twice; ch 1, sk next 3 dc, in next ch-3 comer sp work (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc): corner made; rep from * twice more; (ch 1, sk next 3 dc, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp) twice; ch 1, sk next 3 dc; join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3; finish off.
Rnd 6: ch 2, sc 1 *(2 sc into next ch-1sp, sdc) until ch-3 sp. 2 sc into ch-3 sp, ch 2, 2sc into ch-3 sp. Rep from * to end of round, join to first ch-2. tie end off
